After ten years in advertising, I don't think there's anything I haven't written. Ok, no jingles. But other than that, I've done it all: tv, radio, print, websites, brochures, annual reports, direct mail, point-of-purchase, outdoor, email, on-hold messages, bookcovers. Bookcovers? Uh, not a career high point. But what I'm saying is, if there's copywriting to be done, I can handle it.
While the bulk of my experience is in retail or consumer-direct advertising, I've done enough business-to-business to know that I'm equally comfortable in that field. The work in that area has, at times, proven more challenging simply because the client's product was more difficult to comprehend. How much easier is it to sell a taco than the concept of web hosting? But with a little background information, I can effectively communicate the message of most any company. I mean, you wouldn't think it possible for a girl who doesn't balance her own checkbook to create a successful campaign for a telephony billing company, but I did.
And while we're talking success, I should mention some, right? Well, there was a small space ad I wrote for Community Bank that netted them more than 15 million in CD sales. I am still waiting for a cut of the profits. Sigh. Then there's the Monk/Rudy mailer I wrote for USA Network. I'm not saying Tony Shaloub wouldn't have won the Emmy without me, but can anyone prove otherwise?
But what really speaks to my success as a writer is the fact that my clients keep coming back. They know they can rely on me to deliver copy that motivates people. They know I'm used to tight deadlines, so I can turn around projects quickly. And they know a whole bunch of my eccentricities that make working with me a strange but pleasant experience. (Sort of like eating Pop Rocks.)
So that's what I have to say for myself, but since we writers are so fond of using testimonials, I thought I'd throw in some unsolicited comments from my clients (and people wonder why I'm an email packrat).
